About
sq̓awsitkw (Okanagan River), CA
The sq̓awsitkʷ (Okanagan River) is a tributary of the Columbia River, hosting the largest remaining population of Columbia River Sockeye salmon, along with lower numbers of Steelhead and Chinook salmon, and resident Rainbow Trout and Kokanee salmon. After years of hard work and advocacy, the Syilx Okanagan Nation has provided salmon access to their historical spawning habitat in Okanagan Lake from the Okanagan River through the new fish passage at the Okanagan Lake Dam.
